North Tyneside
The North Tyneside history pages cover the history of Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats on the coast and the historic port of North Shields near the mouth of the Tyne. We feature Wallsend with its rich mix of Roman and industrial history, nearby Willington Quay and a number of places across the borough including Shiremoor, Earsdon, Backworth and Killingworth with its close connections to George Stephenson. Historically places in the North Tyneside area were part of the County of Northumberland.
